Obey and Prosper

Obey and Prosper

"But this command I gave them: ‘Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. And walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.’" — Jeremiah 7:23 (ESV)

In a world that promotes self-reliance, it’s easy to forget that true success comes from obedience to God. We may chase after wealth, status, or influence, but Scripture teaches that prosperity comes when we align our lives with God’s will. Jeremiah 7:23 reminds us that obedience leads to His blessing.

King Jotham, in 2 Chronicles 27:1-6, prospered because he walked faithfully with God. His obedience wasn’t passive but deliberate—an intentional decision to follow God’s ways. His success wasn’t just material wealth but a life of purpose and strength. This challenges us to ask: Are there areas in my life that I have yet to fully surrender to God?

Partial obedience is disobedience. Saul learned this in 1 Samuel 15:22 when he tried to substitute sacrifice for obedience, and it cost him his kingdom. God isn’t looking for occasional acts of faith but a heart fully surrendered. Jesus modeled perfect obedience, even to the point of death, showing us that true success is found in yielding completely to the Father’s will.

Obedience requires effort and trust. It means submitting every part of our lives—our time, resources, ambitions, and emotions—to God. When we obey, we acknowledge that He is our true provider. Self-reliance may bring temporary success, but lasting prosperity comes from walking in His ways.

Are there areas in your life where you struggle to fully obey? Perhaps it’s trusting God with your future, your finances, or your relationships. True prosperity isn’t measured by worldly achievements but by a life fully yielded to God. If we desire His blessing, we must walk daily in obedience, trusting that every step is part of His greater plan.

Reflection:

  • Are there areas in your life where you struggle with obedience?
  • How can you align your daily decisions more fully with God’s will?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for calling me to walk in obedience. I surrender every part of my life to You—my time, resources, and plans. Help me trust Your ways, knowing that true prosperity comes from following You. Strengthen my faith so that I may walk daily in obedience, fully relying on You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
