The Value of Intimacy
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all
your might" — Deuteronomy 6:5 (ESV)
In our walk with God, true intimacy is something that develops over time, as we continually seek Him and open our hearts to His presence. In Deuteronomy 6:5, we are instructed to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and might. This call to love God fully means not only seeking Him but also recognizing His constant presence in our lives. God desires to be known deeply, and intimacy with Him requires more than just occasional moments of connection—it’s about cultivating a relationship that is rooted in every part of our being. As we journey deeper into intimacy with God, we experience transformation, renewed strength, and a clearer sense of purpose in life.
Intimacy with God begins with intentional pursuit. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that God rewards those who earnestly seek Him, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently draw near to Him. There is always room for growth in our spiritual lives; no matter how far we’ve come, God invites us to draw closer. The act of seeking Him daily helps us to recognize His voice, experience His guidance, and feel His presence in our lives. We are not just called to know about God; we are called to know Him personally, which happens as we spend time in His Word, in prayer, and in worship. This continual pursuit deepens our relationship and strengthens our faith.
God’s presence is not distant or passive; He is an active and living God, working in and through our lives. Revelation 1:17-18 declares that Jesus, the Living One, is not only alive but is also actively engaged in our world today. The same God who conquered death and rose from the grave continues to be at work for us. As we seek Him, we come to understand that He is not a God who remains silent or absent. His presence is real and powerful, and He moves in our lives with purpose. In moments of intimacy with God, we experience His strength, His peace, and His power to transform us.
Psalm 84:1 expresses a longing for God’s presence, saying, “How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts!” — Psalm 84:1 (ESV). To dwell in God's presence is to abide with Him, to rest in His love, and to be transformed by His glory. Intimacy with God is not just a fleeting encounter but a daily experience of being close to Him. It is in His presence that we find true rest and strength, and it is from His presence that we are empowered to live out His love in the world. God’s presence gives us the courage to face life’s challenges, the clarity to make decisions, and the peace to endure trials. As we draw near to God, we are shaped more into His likeness and are equipped to reflect His love to others.
As we reflect on our own lives, it’s important to ask ourselves how we can cultivate a deeper intimacy with God. Are we intentionally seeking Him daily, or are we relying on fleeting moments of connection? How can we create space in our lives to listen for His voice and allow His presence to transform us? Intimacy with God is a journey, not a destination, and it requires a willingness to draw near to Him each day, trusting that He will meet us with His love and faithfulness.
In prayer, we can ask God to help us seek Him more earnestly, to dwell in His presence with a heart open to His transformation. We can ask Him to reveal Himself to us in deeper ways, to strengthen our faith, and to guide us in all things. As we grow in intimacy with God, we become more aware of His presence and more aligned with His will, reflecting His love in the world around us.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for calling me into a deeper relationship with You. I desire to love You with all my heart, soul, and strength. Help me to seek You daily and to experience the beauty of Your presence in my life. Reveal Your will to me, and empower me to live in a way that reflects Your love. May my life be a testimony of Your goodness and grace, and may I continually draw closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
