The Love of Jesus
"And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, 'Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?' He said to him, 'What is written in the Law? How do you read it?'” — Luke 10:25-26 (ESV)
In a world filled with division, Jesus challenges us to love beyond societal expectations. In Luke 10:25-37, Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan in response to the question, “Who is my neighbor?” A man was beaten and left for dead. A priest and a Levite passed by without helping, but a Samaritan—a person despised by Jews—stopped, cared for the man, and paid for his recovery. Jesus asked, “Who proved to be a neighbor?” The answer was clear: “The one who showed mercy.”
This story teaches us that love transcends boundaries. Our neighbor isn’t just someone we know or like—it is anyone in need. Love is not about comfort or obligation but about genuine compassion. Jesus calls us to love selflessly, just as He loves us. John 13:34-35 says, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” True love is not about what we can gain but what we can give.
The Old Testament also emphasizes love. Deuteronomy 6:4-5 commands us to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and might.” Jesus ties this to loving our neighbor, showing that our love for God is inseparable from our love for others. The Good Samaritan exemplified this by helping a stranger at personal cost. His love wasn’t dictated by cultural norms but by compassion.
As followers of Christ, we are called to love without prejudice, expecting nothing in return. Love requires action—it’s not just a feeling but a commitment to serve. We are challenged to step beyond our comfort zones and extend God’s love to everyone, regardless of their background or situation.
Reflection:
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for loving me unconditionally. Help me to love others with the same compassion You have shown me. Teach me to serve selflessly and love without prejudice. May my actions reflect Your heart and be a testimony of Your love to the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection:
- Who in your life needs to experience God’s love through you?
- Are there people you have avoided helping because of discomfort or prejudice?
- How can you reflect Christ’s selfless love in your daily interactions?

Lord, thank You for loving me unconditionally. Help me to love others with the same compassion You have shown me. Teach me to serve selflessly and love without prejudice. May my actions reflect Your heart and be a testimony of Your love to the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
