Our Identity in Christ

Our Identity in Christ

This week’s Equip Night centered on “Our Identity in Christ,” reminding us that one of the enemy’s greatest tactics is identity confusion.

From the Garden of Eden to Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness, the enemy’s question has remained the same:

“If you are the Son of God…”Matthew 4:3

The devil knows that if he can make us doubt who we are, we’ll forget what we carry. But our identity in Christ is not based on feelings or performance, it’s anchored in truth.

  • Why Identity Matters

Our relationship with God flows from identity. If we don’t know who we are in Him, we’ll live from insecurity instead of authority.

Throughout Scripture, God redefined people by changing their names:
Abram to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, Jacob to Israel, Simon to Peter, and Saul to Paul.
Each name change represented a new nature and purpose, just as grace has redefined us.

  • Who We Are in Christ

“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”John 1:12–13 (NIV)

Through faith, we are:

  • Redeemed – Bought by His blood (Ephesians 1:7)
  • Forgiven – Cleansed from sin (1 John 1:9)
  • Chosen – Handpicked to bear fruit (John 15:16)
  • New Creations – The old has passed away (2 Corinthians 5:17)
  • Loved – Nothing can separate us from Him (Romans 8:38–39)

Grace didn’t just save us, it transformed us.

  • What Grace Is and Isn’t

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast."Ephesians 2:8–9 (NIV)

Grace is God’s unearned favor and empowerment, not a reward for effort. It is not self-righteousness, not permission to sin, and not limited by failure. Grace teaches us to live upright and godly lives (Titus 2:11–12).

Grace doesn’t excuse sin, it empowers change.

  • Living From Identity

Identity in Christ is a daily reality, not a Sunday reminder.

Here’s how to walk in it:

  • Renew your mind – Let Scripture shape your thoughts.
  • Speak truth – Declare what God says about you.
  • Reject lies – Don’t let the world rename you.
  • Stay in community – Be surrounded by those who remind you of truth.

You are not defined by your past, you are defined by God’s promise.

Final Thoughts

When we know who we are, we live confident, free, and full of grace.
You are redeemed, chosen, forgiven, and deeply loved by God.

Live from identity not insecurity.
