You Have the Capacity to Move

You Have the Capacity to Move

Scripture
“So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’”
Genesis 1:27–28 (ESV)

Reflection

Movement begins with identity. Before God ever asked humanity to move, build, rule, or multiply, He established who we are and what we carry.

Genesis tells us that we were created in God’s image, not in physical likeness, but in nature. God placed His DNA within us. His life, His capacity, His ability to create, steward, and overcome were embedded into humanity from the beginning. This means that movement is not something we strive to achieve. It is something we were designed for.

When God declared fruitfulness, multiplication, dominion, and responsibility, He was not issuing impossible commands. He was calling forth what was already placed inside humanity. God never asks us to do what He has not already equipped us to do.

The sermon reminds us that nature determines capacity. A bird flies because it was created to fly. A lion does not eat grass because it was not created to do so. In the same way, when we live disconnected from God’s nature, movement feels difficult and exhausting. But when we reconnect to our original design, movement becomes natural.

Throughout Scripture, we see this nature at work. Noah built the ark against all odds. Isaac prospered in a land of famine. Joseph interpreted dreams and forgave betrayal. Jacob changed outcomes through God-given wisdom. These were not superhuman people. They were people aligned with God’s nature.

If movement feels hard, the issue is not capacity. The issue is connection. When we return to God, we rediscover who we are and what we carry.

This is where the foundation becomes practical. The Message translation of Genesis 1:28, God tells humanity to “take charge” and “be responsible.” From the very beginning, God’s design was never passivity or survival. It was stewardship, ownership, and intentional engagement with the world He entrusted to us. Being created in God’s image means we were designed to carry responsibility, make decisions, and partner with Him in shaping outcomes. When we avoid responsibility, we shrink our capacity. But when we embrace God’s original design, movement becomes a natural expression of who we are.

Reflection Questions

  • Where have I doubted my capacity to move forward in obedience?
  • In what areas of my life do I need to reconnect with God’s nature instead of relying on my own strength?
  • What responsibility might God be inviting me to take ownership of in this season?

Prayer

Father, thank You for creating me in Your image and placing Your nature within me. Forgive me for shrinking back from responsibility or doubting my capacity. Help me see myself as You see me. Teach me to take charge and steward what You have placed in my hands with wisdom and courage. I choose to move forward in alignment with Your design. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
