The True Gospel

The True Gospel
The Power of Salvation and Eternal Security in Christ

Scripture:

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile."
Romans 1:16 (NIV)

Reflection

The true gospel is not about human effort, striving, or performance. It is about the finished work of Jesus Christ. Paul boldly declares that he is not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God unto salvation. In Greek, the word for salvation is sotēria, meaning wholeness, deliverance, preservation, and eternal safety. Salvation is not just a ticket to heaven; it is the ongoing power of God working in us to redeem, restore, and transform.

In Christ, we are not barely saved. We are completely secure. God has made us joint heirs with Christ and has seated us with Him in heavenly places, far above principalities and powers (Ephesians 2:6). Our salvation is not fragile; it is anchored in His unchanging nature and sustained by His obedience, not ours.

Paul contrasts Adam’s sin with Christ’s obedience: “The gift is not like the trespass.” If one man’s sin brought condemnation to all, how much more will the obedience of Jesus bring righteousness, restoration, and eternal life to all who believe (Romans 5:15–17). The gift of grace far outweighs the power of sin. Adam’s fall was powerful, but Jesus’ resurrection is infinitely greater. Through Him, we are no longer slaves to sin, but alive to righteousness and empowered to live in freedom.

This means your salvation is not something you can lose like a misplaced coin. It is something you have been sealed into. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you. You are seated, secured, and sustained in Him. You no longer strive for acceptance; you live from it.

The true gospel does not make you boast in yourself; it makes you rest in Christ. It does not make you afraid of falling; it makes you confident in His grip. It does not make you focus on your weakness; it draws your eyes to His strength.

You are redeemed, forgiven, and made new. You are eternally secure because your salvation rests not on your performance but on His perfection. That is the gospel worth sharing. That is the gospel that saves and transforms.

Reflection Questions

  • Do I live as though my salvation depends on my effort or on Christ’s finished work?
  • How can I rest more deeply in the truth that I am seated with Christ above all powers?
  • Am I walking daily in the freedom of no longer being a slave to sin?

Prayer

Father, thank You for the gospel of grace that saves and sustains me. Thank You that I am seated with Christ, secure in Your love, and covered by His obedience. Thank You that I am no longer a slave to sin, but free to live righteously through Your Spirit. Help me to live from the confidence of my salvation, not the fear of losing it. Teach me to rest in what You have already finished and to reflect Your transforming power in my daily life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
