Gratitude Opens Our Eyes
Scripture:
"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His steadfast love endures forever."
— Psalm 136:1
Reflection:
It is remarkable how easily we can overlook God's blessings.
We pray for provision, and when it comes, it quickly becomes normal. We ask for healing, and once health returns, we move on to the next concern. We cry out for an open door, and after walking through it, we soon begin worrying about something else.
Gratitude has a way of slowing us down so we can see God's fingerprints on our lives.
When we intentionally thank God, our focus shifts from what is missing to what He has already provided. The mountains that once seemed overwhelming begin to shrink as we remember His faithfulness.
This does not mean our struggles disappear overnight. Many of the greatest testimonies are born in the middle of hardship. But praise changes the posture of our hearts. Instead of being consumed by what we cannot control, we become anchored in the character of the One who never changes.
Throughout the Bible, thanksgiving always precedes greater confidence. David praised God before the battle. Paul and Silas sang in prison before the prison doors opened. Gratitude reminds us that the God who has been faithful yesterday will be faithful again tomorrow.
Take a few moments today to count God's blessings. Some will be dramatic. Others may seem ordinary: the gift of life, family, daily bread, strength for today or peace in the middle of uncertainty.
What we often call ordinary is, in reality, extraordinary grace repeated every day.
A thankful heart does not ignore life's challenges. It simply refuses to let those challenges have the final word.

Prayer:
Father, open my eyes to see Your goodness in both the extraordinary and the ordinary moments of life. Teach me to become a person of gratitude whose heart is quick to praise and slow to complain. May my life continually point others to Your faithfulness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
