Pray Before You Strategize

Pray Before You Strategize

Scripture:
“Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
Luke 10:2

Reflection:

When Jesus saw that the harvest was plentiful and the labourers were few, His first instruction was not to create a strategy, launch a campaign, or develop a stronger system.

He said, “Pray.”

This reveals the true foundation of kingdom work.

Prayer is not something we add after we have exhausted our ideas. It is not the last resort when plans fail. Prayer is where we begin because the harvest belongs to God.

Human strategies can organize people, communicate information, and create opportunities. These things can be useful, but they cannot produce spiritual life. Only the Holy Spirit can soften a heart, draw a person to Christ, awaken hunger, and transform a life.

Without prayer, ministry can become constant activity without spiritual power. We may work hard, lose sleep, build systems, and create plans, yet accomplish very little of eternal value.

Prayer changes this because prayer changes us.

As we pray, our motives are purified. Our perspective becomes clearer. Our anxiety begins to settle. We stop trying to control the outcome and learn to listen for God’s direction.

Prayer does not only change the circumstances around us. It changes how we stand within those circumstances.

It aligns us with the heart of the Lord of the harvest.

There are times when we complain about what is lacking. We notice that more people are needed, more resources are required, or more help should be available. Jesus teaches us to turn that concern into prayer.

Before criticizing, pray.
Before becoming discouraged, pray.
Before developing another strategy, pray.
Before assuming the work is failing, pray.

God is still the Lord of the harvest. He knows where the labourers are. He knows how to call them, prepare them, and send them.

The church moves forward when God’s people rise in prayer.

Reflection Questions:

  • Do I treat prayer as my first response or my final option?
  • Have I been complaining about needs that God is asking me to pray about?
  • What area of my life, church, or community requires consistent prayer rather than greater human effort?

Prayer:

Father, teach me to pray before I strategize. Deliver me from relying only on human ability, knowledge, and effort. Align my heart with what You are doing and awaken a consistent spirit of prayer within me. Send labourers into Your harvest, and make me willing to be one of them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
