Seen, Known, and Growing
Why the Early Church Multiplied and Why We Still Need Each Other
Scripture:
"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." — Hebrews 10:24–25 (NIV)
Reflection:
In the first three centuries of the Church, long before church buildings and programs, something powerful was happening. Christianity was illegal, resources were scarce, and public gatherings were often dangerous. Yet the Church grew at a rate that still stuns historians. By 300 AD, it is estimated that there were over 6 million believers, many gathering in homes, courtyards, and quiet spaces where faith was lived out daily.
What made their faith so contagious? They were deeply connected both spiritually and relationally. There was no hiding in the crowd. Every believer was seen, known, and vital to the life of the community. These early Christians didn’t simply attend church. They were the Church, meeting in homes, sharing meals, carrying one another’s burdens, and spurring one another on toward love and good deeds.
There is something beautifully authentic about being part of a spiritual family where no one is invisible. The house gatherings of the early Church weren’t optional extras. They were the heartbeat of the movement. And maybe that’s why they grew so rapidly. They multiplied through relationships by opening homes, opening hearts, and walking life together.
In our world of digital connection and surface-level relationships, it’s easy to slip into spiritual isolation. But the truth still holds. No man is an island. We were never meant to follow Jesus alone. God calls us into community not just for comfort, but for growth, accountability, encouragement, and mission.
So as we launch and grow Open Homes at Mountain Springs Church, this is your invitation. Step into something real. Don’t just attend. Belong. Open Homes are safe spaces to be seen, to be known, and to grow. They are where faith becomes family. Find your chariot. Find your people. Join an Open Home today.
Reflection Questions:
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for designing Your Church to thrive in homes, around tables, and through relationships. Help me resist the urge to isolate. Lead me to the people who will challenge and encourage me in my walk with You. Use me to strengthen others, just as You have strengthened me. Let my faith be seen and shared. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
