Stay in Position — Guard Against Distraction

Stay in Position — Guard Against Distraction

"Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith."1 Peter 5:8-9 (NIV)

Reflection:

When God is moving — in your life, your family, your church — the enemy often shifts tactics. He may not stop what God is doing, but he will attempt to pull you out of position through distraction and deception.

These distractions are often subtle:

• Emotional entanglements
• Flattery or false friendships
• “Good” opportunities that dilute your focus
• Busyness that lacks true fruit

The enemy whispers:

"You’re missing out. You need to manage this yourself. You don’t have time to pray. No one will notice if you compromise."

If we believe these lies, we can drift:

• Out of intimacy with Jesus
• Out of spiritual alignment
• Out of joy and peace in the calling
• Out of Kingdom timing

This is an old strategy. In Nehemiah 6, as Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem’s walls, his enemies repeatedly sent the message: "Come, let us meet in the plain of Ono."

Nehemiah’s response: "I am doing a great work, and I cannot come down." (Nehemiah 6:3)

He refused to leave his post — and completed the work God had given him.

In the same way, your position matters. Whether as a parent, leader, business owner, intercessor, or faithful worker in the Kingdom — your role is anointed.

The enemy will try to pull you into:

• Offense
• Fear
• Striving
• False relationships
• Misplaced busyness

But Scripture calls us to be alert, sober-minded, and steadfast. Guard your post. Stay faithful to what God has asked you to build.

Reflection Questions:

1. Are there distractions trying to pull me out of position?
2. Are there any lies I’ve been believing about where my focus should be?
3. What “great work” is God asking me to stay faithful to right now?

Prayer:

Lord, open my eyes to the subtle schemes of the enemy. Where I have drifted, bring me back into alignment with You. Give me grace to guard my heart, my post, and my calling.
Help me stay anchored in Your presence, building with joy, and resisting every lie. Today, I choose to stay in position—fully yielded, fully focused, fully Yours. In Jesus’ name, amen.
