Accepted in the Beloved

Accepted in the Beloved
Resting in God’s Grace and Approval

Scripture:
"To the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved."
Ephesians 1:6 (NKJV)

Reflection

When God spoke over Jesus at His baptism, He declared, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Those words were not only for Jesus; they are for us too. Through Christ, God now looks at us and says the same: You are My beloved child, and I am pleased with you.

The Greek word for “accepted” in Ephesians 1:6 is charitoō, meaning to be highly favored or graciously accepted. This acceptance is not based on what we have done but on the unearned grace of God. Before you ever did anything to earn it, God had already placed His love and approval on you in Christ. You are not striving to be accepted; you are already accepted because of Jesus.

Immediately after that declaration of love, Jesus was led into the wilderness for forty days and forty nights. This was not a sign of God’s displeasure but of His preparation. Just as the Israelites spent forty years in the wilderness, Jesus was tested in three areas: the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. Each temptation revealed what the true Son of God would do where humanity had failed. He overcame through obedience, showing us that even in testing, God’s declaration of love stands firm.

We are accepted not because of our perfection but because of His. When we fail, His grace remains greater. When we are weak, His strength is made perfect. The gospel reminds us that our worth is not measured by our performance but by Christ’s finished work on the cross.

You are not a slave to sin or shame. You are seated with Christ in heavenly places, far above every power that once held you captive. Your security and identity are anchored in Him. When you know you are accepted, you stop performing for approval and start living from it.

Walk today in the confidence that you are loved, chosen, and deeply accepted in the Beloved.

Reflection Questions

  • Do I truly believe that God is pleased with me because of Jesus?
  • How does knowing I am accepted in the Beloved change how I respond to challenges and temptations?
  • Where have I been striving for acceptance that God has already given me?

Prayer

Father, thank You for accepting me in the Beloved. Thank You that Your approval is not something I have to earn but a gift of grace I freely receive. Help me to rest in Your love, to live out of acceptance instead of striving for it, and to stand firm when tested. Remind me daily that I am Your beloved child, fully known and fully loved. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
